The American Worker Plans was founded in 1992 as a Managing General Agent for limited medical plans after identifying a need for providing affordable health insurance for working Americans. The AWP was designed to provide healthcare coverage for "working uninsured" that were typically ineligible for an employer-sponsored plan. Often, lower paid employees are excluded from participation in primary major medical programs, or even if made available, are beyond their budget.
With a little over two decades of experience, AWP proudly offers a variety of both employer and employee-paid benefits products underwritten by many of the country's leading insurers. We have created a fully insured, but highly affordable, limited benefit medical plans, with a focus to cover basic and preventive health care services.
Specialties include customized fixed-indemnity medical plans that can stand-alone or be combined with stop-loss coverage to protect employees from catastrophic loss. This hybrid option creates an extremely cost-effective alternative to traditional major medical plans and most efficiently addresses the major components of medical plan utilization.
In addition to highly competitive and proprietary programs, differential advantages of AWP include client-customized enrollment booklets, employee communication materials (e.g. postcards, brochures and posters), consolidated administration and billing along with ancillary products with leading TPAs.
It is most important that people understand that our plans should never be used to replace any comprehensive major medical coverage that a person has or may have access to. Clearly communicated in both their benefits and limitations, programs such as ours can provide valuable basic medical protection, and the health insurance card is your access to the American health care system.
In this specialized marketplace we are proud to serve employers of all sizes, which include some of America’s largest employers. We work with five national “A” rated carriers, so that we can provide benefits on a consultative basis. These programs can be customized to the individual financial circumstances of each employer and their employees.
While the national debate on health reform continues, we believe that change is essential. Hopefully, It will take place over the years in a thoughtful, but systematic manner. Employers are struggling to maintain existing major medical coverage and are finding the need for alternative group plan designs with real world cost control options in a challenging economy. That is why our expanding portfolio of programs, such as gap and critical illness plans, can help fill the void created by high deductibles or co-pays, as well as offer a valuable option for large claim protection.
We will never lose sight of the fact that our company’s core mission is maintaining affordability of all benefits that we provide to our valued producer partners and their clients.
